About me...

IMG_0252_edited.jpg
Hi, my name is Elizabeth Margiotta. I'm a Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist licensed in the state of New York, with a master's degree in nutrition and another degree in psychology. I have experience providing nutrition counseling to individuals of all ages, life stages, and backgrounds, and I have also worked as a nutritionist in a medical center. I started North Star Nutrition because I wanted to provide an easy, accessible nutrition counseling service that all people could benefit from, outside of a traditional health care setting. Combining my expertise in nutrition and psychology has enabled me to focus on the mind-body connection: how our thoughts and emotions can affect our eating habits, and how the foods we eat can then affect how we're thinking and feeling. Armed with this knowledge, I soon developed a passion for helping others improve their physical and mental well-being through the healing power of food... and I would love to do the same for you!

I truly believe that we must rethink our relationship with food and recognize the critical role it plays in our physical and mental healthFood is not just something we need for survival, it is a crucial aspect of who we are. It connects us together, offers pleasure and enjoyment, takes center stage in traditions and celebrations, and provides us with the energy to live, work, play, and love. It does not simply provide us with calories, it also nourishes our mind, body, and soul and helps form our thoughts, feelings, and attitudes about ourselves and the world around us. Although we may need to adjust its role from time to time, we should continue to appreciate the tremendous part it plays in our lives as something far more than just fuel.

Everything in life is about balance, and health is no different. Achieving good health involves eating more of the foods that nourish and heal us and less of the ones that don't. Although this sounds simple, we often overcomplicate it by listening to misinformation and online trends instead of following the signs our bodies are providing us with. The science is clear: Studies have shown that an anti-inflammatory, whole-foods diet high in antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and plant-based fats such as avocados, olive oil, nuts, and seeds is key to achieving optimal health. However, it is equally important to learn to listen to our bodies and recognize the cues they're giving us. At North Star Nutrition, we follow the science while also offering personalized counseling that is tailored to each unique individual and their lifestyle. And because your peace of mind is our top priority, our sessions can be completed either in person or online from the comfort and privacy of your own home.
